Travel through breathtaking bucket-list scenery, landscapes, and cultures, including Mt. Everest (Tibetan Base Camp)*, whilst all the while discussing the histories, traditions, various schools/branches and the differences therein, sacred locations and mythologies associated with Buddhism with your local guide and your accompanying academic expert.
* The Tibetan base camp (North Face) is significantly more easily accessed than the base camp/s on the Nepali side. Neither trekking experience nor super-fitness is necessary. We can arrange safe access for all ages and most levels of fitness, pending your doctor's advice.
Beginning in Beijing, we then take the famous 'Sky Train' (the highest passenger train in the world) across northern China, over the Himalaya, to Lhasa in Beautiful Tibet. Staying in very comfortable (except, be forewarned, for the one night at the guest house by Everest base camp ... which is safe, warm, and welcoming, in a stunning location, but very basic, rustic and minimalistic), Tibetan-owned-and-operated hotels and travelling with a local Tibetan guide, travelling in comfort in a private van driven by a local Tibetan driver, we explore Lhasa, then travel through spectacular Himalayan scenery and visit the Tibetan base camp on the northern slopes of the mighty, majestic Mount Everest. Tibetan base camp is relatively easy to reach compared to those on the Nepalese side, and this base camp sits looking immediately up at the famous North Face. See pictures in this gallery. Nearby, we visit the highest monastery in the world, spending the night in its guesthouse, still looking up at the face of Everest.
From here, we pass through more Himalayan majesty, then descend crossing into Nepal. We travel to traditional sacred sites and Buddhism-related historical and cultural sites throughout Nepal and then in northern India.
